R&D for 2 new Nelson motor yacht models
Mike Burnham leads research and development for two new Nelson motor yacht models
Dateline March 8, 2016. Cowes: The Boat Development Co based at Cowes, builders of the Seaward Nelson range of all-weather motor cruisers and commercial craft, is investing heavily in developing two new models to their range: the all new Seaward 39 E16, and a new improved version of their well established 42 foot flagship model, the Seaward 42 E 16.
|Designed like all Nelson boats by TT Designs, the ‘E’ within the names of these two thoroughbred sea boats stands for ‘Evolution’ and signals new standards in sea keeping, understated style and interior refinements. This investment in new models is being led by Mike Burnham who stepped down as Managing Director in February to concentrate on developing the Company’s evolving range of ultimate motor yachts and commercial craft. “We are working to incorporate a number of purposeful, functional and rugged developments such as active interceptors for trim control, noise and vibration isolated interior spaces, and ergonomically optimised helm positions” Says Burnham, adding.
“We are also introducing the latest digital switch electrical distribution system developed with Atlantis Marine Power Ltd.
Digital switching combined with distributed power supplies is an important advance within marine engineering and replaces the traditional circuit breaker board with every wire running right round the boat. It has been used in a number of applications from small RIB’s to hovercraft and superyachts, and enables remote switching and simpler installations.” He explains.
The latest Seaward pilot boats, which require simple yet ultra-reliable navigation light controls, are already using this solution. This allows the wiring and switching to be done close to the lights themselves and cuts down considerably on vessel-long cable runs. Control is remote and includes a bulb failure detection warning system now specified by classification societies.
The Seaward 39 E16 and Seaward 42 E16 Nelson motor cruisers will both make their debut at the Southampton Boat Show between 16 – 25th September.
