The Seaward 42 is based on the Seaward Nelson 42 pilot boat hull design and is an RCD Category A ocean-going motor yacht at the top of the Seaward range. Typically, they are custom built to the owner’s requirements with a wide choice of layouts. The hull is the same as the well-proven all-weather Nelson pilot boats in use professionally around the world but with the addition of an integral stern platform to maximise the running length of the hull and contribute to ease of trim, handling, and sea kindliness.
The standard twin propulsion engines and drives are a pair of Yanmar 8LVs diesel engines rated at 370hp, but there are other options. These include the Cummins QSB 6.7’s rated at 425hp and the Yanmar 6LY-CRs, rated at 440hp. The engines are controlled by an electronic shift and monitoring system. The port and starboard gearboxes are arranged for handed rotation, driving outward turning 2” shafts and Seaward’s optimised 24″ 5 blade propellers, reducing noise and vibration and increasing efficiency. The large rudders are heavy-duty and the same as used on the pilot boats. They are of aerofoil section in cast bronze controlled through an hydraulic steering system.
The fuel tanks are moulded into the keel section of the hull and hold 2,000 litres each. One feeds the port engine and the other the starboard engine. There is a cross connection valve that is normally shut, but in the event of an engine breaking down it enables all the remaining fuel to be available to the other engine. The tank fillers are side by side on the port or starboard side deck, and have special splash stops which prevent spillage while filling. You can also specify optional wing tanks which will hold another 1,000 litres of fuel.
The deck layout provides wide side decks and a clean fore deck to give safe access all around the boat. The self-launching anchor stem head fitting contains a stainless steel anchor, and the electric windlass is operated by deck foot switches on the fore deck and remote control at the helm. All deck fittings and hand rails are substantial and manufactured in stainless steel. The mast is in white powder-coated aluminium and hinges back in order to pass under low bridges.
The standard well-appointed interior layout has a spacious owner’s cabin with ensuite shower and toilet, forward, together with a dinette and galley, and wheelhouse saloon. Other options include a separate twin-berth guest cabin. The boat has central heating and air is ducted to outlets in the accommodation and heads. There is also an immersion heater to produce hot water from shore power.
The price of the Seaward 42 includes launching and commissioning at Cowes, and we provide two days of hand over and familiarisation free of charge.
